The iconic Finke Desert Race is heading to the global stage, with a new partnership set to bring one of the Territory's most legendary events to audiences around the world.

Chris Hemsworth and Ben Grayson's production company, Wild State, will develop a slate of screen projects inspired by the Finke Desert Race, including a feature film and documentary content capturing the scale, grit and spirit of the event.

The Finocchiaro CLP Government is supporting the partnership, which will shine a spotlight on Central Australia at a time when the region is gaining attention for all the right reasons.

Minister for Tourism and Hospitality and Major Events Marie-Clare Boothby said the announcement showed the Territory's growing reputation as a destination for major events and screen production.

"The Finke Desert Race is one of the most iconic off-road races in the world. It is a defining Territory event," Minister Boothby said.

"This partnership will take that story to a global audience. It will showcase our landscapes, our people and the Territory spirit like nowhere else."

The 2026 race marks the 50th anniversary of the Finke Desert Race, drawing thousands of competitors and spectators to Central Australia and delivering significant benefits to local businesses and communities.

Minister Boothby said the collaboration was a direct result of the Government's integrated approach to tourism, events and screen.

"By bringing everything together, we are creating real opportunities to promote the Territory and attract investment," she said.

"This is about turning interest into investment and making sure the Territory is front and centre on the global stage."

Wild State will develop both scripted and unscripted content, including coverage of freestyle motocross champion Robbie Maddison's first attempt at the race.

Chris Hemsworth said the partnership was an exciting opportunity to showcase the event to the world.

"Off-road racing has been a passion in my family for a long time and we at Wild State are thrilled to partner with the Tatts Finke Desert Race on the eve of its 50th anniversary and bring this epic competition to a global audience," Mr Hemsworth said.

Minister Boothby said events like Finke play a critical role in driving visitation and supporting the Territory economy.

"When our events are strong, our regions benefit, our businesses grow and more people choose to visit the Territory," she said.

"This is about growth, certainty and security. It is about showing the world exactly what makes the Territory so special."
