Finniss River fish brings Season 6 tally to five!

Northern Territory Major Events Company

The sixth season of Million Dollar Fish launched just over a week ago, with SportsBet already giving away a huge $55,000 in prize money to local and interstate fishos.

A total of five tagged barra have been caught across the Top End, with the latest $10,000 fish reeled in by Territorian William Talbot.

The Dundee local was wetting a line off the bank at the Finniss River mouth when he bagged the lucrative 70cm catch using live bait late on Monday, 5 October.

Tagged last month in Bynoe Harbour for Million Dollar Fish Season 6, the $10,000 barra travelled an incredible 64km to the Finniss River mouth before being caught.

Born and bred in the Top End, Mr Talbot has been living at Dundee Beach for over 20 years and looked forward to putting his prize money towards building a new workshop and a verandah on his property.

Million Dollar Fish Season 6 runs until 31 March 2021, with more chances than ever before to take home huge cash prizes.

Fishos are encouraged to register for free at www.milliondollarfish.com.au and fish the NT for the chance to hook onto one of the seven $1 million barra included in Season 6.

In addition, there are still 96 $10,000 fish, along with four Double Tag Barra and 20 $5,000 charity fish swimming around Top End waterways.

As noted by Northern Territory Major Events Company (NTMEC) CEO Tim Watsford:

"We are just over a week into Million Dollar Fish Season 6, and already we have seen five lucky fishos hook prize-tagged barra across the Top End.

"Season 6 is the biggest and best to date, and at this rate it's shaping up to be the most memorable with more prize-tagged fish caught than ever before.

"On behalf of the team at NTMEC, I'd like to congratulate local fisho William Talbot on reeling in a $10,000 barra and encourage everyone to register for Million Dollar Fish for the chance to become a millionaire."

As noted by SportsBet External Affairs Manager Brad Fanning:

"It's fantastic to see another fisho hook onto a red tag, and SportsBet couldn't be happier to be awarding local man William Talbot a cheque for $10,000.

"We have just kicked off Season 6 and SportsBet has already given away $55,000 in prize money to locals and visitors, which is a brilliant result.

"The fishos are certainly on top in the competition so far and I have a feeling we might be in for a record-breaking season.

"The weather conditions are very favourable towards barra fishing at the moment, so I hope the stars align and one lucky fisho can hook onto one of the seven Million Dollar Fish included in Season 6."

As noted by Winning Fisho William Talbot:

"When I first reeled the barra in, I didn't realise it had a red tag. I took it up to the bank and it wasn't until my girlfriend started screaming that I looked down and saw the tag.

"The fish jumped a fair bit when I reeled him in – I honestly thought it would've been bigger than 70cm.

"I'm going to put the $10,000 towards building a new workshop and a verandah. My mate's a builder so I'm going to get him to give me a hand.

"I've registered for Million Dollar Fish for the last few years but never thought I would be lucky enough to hook a red tag – I still don't believe it."
