Evacuations after fire in Lakemba

Emergency services are at the scene of a fire in Lakemba this morning, NSW Police say.

About 8.50am today, officers attached to Campsie Local Area Command and Fire & Rescue NSW were called to a youth centre on Croydon Street, following reports of a fire.

The fire was extinguished a short time later; however the building was completely destroyed.

One man was treated for smoke inhalation and was taken to a hospital as a precaution. Police have received no further reports of injury.

A number of buildings were evacuated, also as a precaution.

Investigations into the incident will continue; the cause of the fire is not yet known.
