Firearm Theft at Elderslie, TAS

On Friday, 28 October 2016, a house at Elderslie was unlawfully entered and as a result six firearms, a quantity of ammunition and two chainsaws were stolen, Tasmania Police say.

On Monday, 31 October 2016, a search was conducted at a Bridgewater address at which time two of the firearms were recovered along with a quantity of the stolen ammunition.

As a result of an ongoing investigation a 22 year old Bridgewater man was charged with a number of offences relating to the matter including aggravated burglary, stealing, possession of a stolen firearm, possess ammunition when not the holder of an appropriate licence and possess firearm parts.

Further enquiries are being conducted by police in relation to the location of the property, including the remaining firearms.

Police can assure the public that we take incidents involving firearms very seriously and all efforts are being made to recover the outstanding firearms.

This is a timely reminder for the public to remain vigilant with home security and to report any suspicious activity to Crime Stoppers.
