Firearms and Drugs Charges, TAS

About midnight last night, uniform police intercepted a vehicle in the car park of the Kmart/Coles complex, Launceston, Tasmania Police say.

Both the driver and passenger were arrested for numerous offences including possessing a dangerous article, possessing a loaded firearm in a public place and drug offences.

Further investigations by Northern Drug Investigation Services resulted in the searches of several properties.

Police recovered a total of 6 firearms believed to be stolen, large amount of ammunition and cash, drugs including cannabis, methylamphetamine and steroids (total street value of the drugs is up to $15,000).

A 43 year old Launceston man was charged with possessing a dangerous article.

A 27 year old Launceston man was charged with Trafficking in a controlled substance, dealing with the proceeds of crime, numerous firearm offences, disqualified driving and possession of stolen property.

Both men will appear in the Launceston Magistrates Court on 9 November 2016.
