Firearms incident in Sunshine

Police are investigating after a woman was injured by a firearm in Sunshine this afternoon, Victoria Police say.

Emergency services were called to an address in McIntosh Street about 4.45pm after reports that a woman, believed to be in her 60s, had been hit in the arm by a bullet.

Police attended the scene and witnesses have informed them that a number of shots had been fired in a nearby reserve.

It is believe that the woman had looked over the back fence to see where the shots had come from and when she got down she was hit in the arm by the bullet.

Investigators are unsure if the shooting was intentional or a ricochet and are currently searching the area.

The woman has been taken to hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
