  • Government fails to listen over insurer concerns
  • The Hodgman Liberal Government is facing criticism from all directions with firefighters the latest to join the chorus of unhappy workers.

Shadow Minister for Police, Fire and Emergency Services, Shane Broad, said the Minister Michael Ferguson must urgently respond to concerns from the Tasmanian branch of United Firefighters Union Australia over the recontracting of the same insurer as the Tasmania Fire Service.

"The UFUA has repeatedly expressed the need for the State Fire Commission to source an alternative insurer which would better support firefighters who become injured in the workplace," Dr Broad said.

"The situation with the insurer is so broken that supporters of injured firefighter Rob Boost were forced to use crowd funding to pay for pain relief.

"Despite this, the Government has just recontracted the same insurer and workers have serious concerns over their safety.

"We now have a position where the UFUA has expressed no confidence in the Chief Officer of the Tasmania Fire Service and members have commenced industrial action.

"Minister Ferguson must urgently intervene in this matter before it escalates even further."
