Former QPS officer Heather Crack attended the Mounted Unit’s monthly training yesterday afternoon, January 18, to receive her Queensland Police Service Medal for 10 years of service, Queensland Police say.
The medal was presented by Inspector David Kolb of the Specialist Services Group at the Mounted Unit headquarters in Moggill, south-west of Brisbane City.
As one of three officers to form the Queensland Mounted Unit in August of 1974, Heather is officially recognised as the first Mounted Unit Policewoman.
Heather learned to ride at her family’s property in Beaudesert, and stated that she joined the QPS for a sound career and an interesting job.
She eventually resigned as a Senior Constable in 1985, with her 11 and a half year career with the QPS including stints in Brisbane City, Coorparoo and Beenleigh.
Heather stated that the medal was a lovely accolade, and that she was very appreciative of the gesture.
