First 'Over the Fence' Front Yard Award winner announced

Mrs Margaret Mattiske from Horsham West was very excited to receive the first Horsham Rural City Council and Horsham Tidy Towns 'Over the Fence' Front Yard Award last week.

Margaret was nominated by her neighbour Wendy Preece, who noted that since the passing of her husband Mark, Margaret has continued to maintain and improve her property.

"Margaret is an inspiration to all of her neighbours" said Ms Preece.

Margaret, who is in her eighties, keeps herself fit and healthy by working around the house. She undertakes all the gardening work herself, including pruning, mowing, digging, and repainting the veranda posts.

She also recently rebuilt a stone path in her garden with new pavers.

Horsham Rural City Mayor Mark Radford presented the award to Margaret, which included a letter of congratulations and a brass plaque for her letterbox.

The 'Over the Fence' Award is a way of recognising people for the work they are doing to maintain and improve their properties during COVID-19 restrictions.

Nominations are still open. More details about the competition can be found at the HRCC website.
