First Stage of Santa Teresa Road Sealing Enhances Connectivity

NT Government

The Territory Labor Government is focussed on connecting the Territory and making our roads resilient.

Works have recently just been completed along the Santa Teresa Road in Central Australia.

Local Territory civil company Aldebaran Contracting spearheaded the sealing works between chainage 13.37km and 20.3km, transforming the road to a two-lane standard and incorporating four floodways.

This project, the first completed under the Northern Territory and Australian government's jointly funded $415 million Northern Territory Strategic Roads Package, generated employment opportunities, supporting 21 jobs for Territorians.

The upgrades provide significant benefits including reducing travel time and costs to freight operators; improving route reliability of the road network through a decrease in road closures; opportunities for all industries through improved access across the region and reduced accidents by improving the overall safety of the route.

With this latest section now sealed, planning is underway to upgrade and seal the remaining 42.7km.

Quotes to attribute to Minister for Infrastructure, Planning and Logistics Joel Bowden:

"The Territory Labor Government continues to make Territory roads safer and more reliable with the sealing of a seven kilometre stretch of the Santa Teresa Road in Central Australia.

"As the only link between Santa Teresa community and Alice Springs, Santa Teresa Road services a number of pastoral leases, Aboriginal communities and is the main access route for a number of freight companies.

"Sealing Territory roads is a priority of the Territory Labor Government to unlock economic opportunities, ensure more reliable access for regional communities and importantly make our roads safer for Territorians and visitors."
