Five motorcycle riders fined for exceeding speed by more than 45km/h, NSW

Assistant Commissioner Michael Corboy of the State’s Traffic and Highway Patrol Command said that dangerous rider behaviour needs to stop after five motorcycle riders were fined for exceeding the speed limit by more than 45km/h in the Northern Beaches last night.

"Stupid behaviour by inexperienced riders and drivers is costing lives. So far this year 357 people have died on our roads, including 62 motorcycle riders.

"Police will continue to take driving and riding privileges away from those who choose to put themselves and others at risk," Assistant Commissioner Michael Corboy said.

About 10.45pm (3 November 2016), officers from the Traffic & Highway Patrol Command responded to reports of dangerous riding of motorcycles near Palm Beach.

At 10.55pm, officers patrolling the area allegedly detected a motorcycle travelling at 194km/h in an 80km/h zone on Mona Vale Road at Terry Hills.

The rider, a 29-year-old man, was issued a fine for exceed speed by more than 45km/h and had his licence confiscated on the spot.

At 11.25pm, officers allegedly detected four further motorcycles travelling at 130km/h in a 60km/h zone on Barranjoey Road, Mona Vale.

All riders, aged between 20 and 21, were stopped and were each issued fines for exceed speed by more than 45km/h.

Investigations revealed that three of the riders were P1 provisional riders and one was a learner rider. All four had their licences suspended on the spot.

Four of the five motorcycle riders had their number plates confiscated as a result of the incident.

Police have been told that the motorcycle riders had gathered to commemorate a friend who had died in a motor vehicle crash.
