Flash Flooding, Gladstone Region

Police are reminding all drivers not to drive through flood waters with a number of roads closed across the Agnes Waters and Miriam Vale region.

Following a significant amount of rainfall a number of roads are experiencing localised flooding resulting a rapid river rising and road closures.

Overnight, a number of motorists have attempted to drive through flood waters resulting in a number of swift water rescue.

About 7.55pm, police were called to Pony Club Road, South Street following reports a silver Holden Commodore had become trapped in flood water.

The driver, a 33-year-old Telina man and passenger, a 32-year-old Gladstone Central man, were rescued by emergency services and sustained minor injuries.

About 8.15pm, police and emergency services were called to Baldaw Road, Captain Creek following reports a car had attempted to cross a flooded road when it became stuck.

With rising flood waters, the three occupants, a 23-year-old man, a 47-year-old man and a 21-year-old woman, all from Captain Creek, were forced to flee the vehicle to a nearby tree before being rescued.

About 12.15am, police were called to Round Hill Road, Captain Creek following reports a vehicle had attempted to cross flood waters when the vehicle was swept away.

The driver, a 65-year-old woman, was forced to swim to land.

A number of roads are currently closed across the region, including Fingerboard Road, between Miriam Vale and Roundhill Road and Roundhill Road in the vicinity of Oyster Creek is closed due to flooding.

Rockhampton District Duty Officer Senior Sergeant David Bletchly said driving through flood waters is never acceptable.

"Flooding can happen anywhere, anytime and even the smallest amount of water on the road can lead to dangerous consequences," Senior Sergeant Bletchly said.

"It may look safe to cross, but water levels can rise rapidly.

"We urge all motorists to drive to the conditions, never drive, walk, or swim through floodwater and remember, if it's flooded, forget It."
