The State Flying Squad (SFS) has now successfully deployed across Queensland over 75 times since it was introduced in January 2025, with its 75th and 76th deployments wrapping up in Cairns and Townsville on 14 October.
The SFS is the largest rapid response unit in Queensland Police's history and upon completion of its 75th and 76th deployments, had charged 585 adults with over 1800 offences, and 1045 young people with over 3000 offences since the Squad was announced in January, while also supporting local officers and other specialist teams in daily operations, protracted and proactive investigations.
Detective Inspector Simon Palmer said deploying the State Flying Squad to crime hotspots enables police to take rapid and more decisive action to reduce crime and protect Queensland communities.
"The SFS amplifies the results of local police operations by boosting frontline resources, as we've seen during the recent surge response to property crime in Cairns and Townsville," Detective Inspector Palmer said.
"We've achieved fantastic results in the Northern and Far Northern regions during our recent rolling deployments and SFS will continue to travel whenever and wherever they're needed most, to help reduce crime, support victims, increase police visibility and make Queensland communities feel safer."
"Our highly skilled officers work tirelessly every day to support local officers and collaborate with other specialist teams to maintain pressure on criminal activities, ensuring we effectively reduce harm wherever we go, through targeted, intelligence-led deployments."
"Every Queenslander deserves to feel safe, and the State Flying Squad is helping ensure we are able to disrupt, deter and prevent crime in the areas that need it most."
