It follows consultation on a proposal earlier this year that aims to help address the shortage of LAMEs by streamlining the issue of an Australian licence to aircraft maintenance engineers that are internationally qualified.
At this stage, no policy or implementation decision has been made.
We continue to engage directly with some representative organisations and unions following the formal consultation period to better understand some of the concerns raised during and since consultation feedback.
Summary of feedback
The consultation was open for 4 weeks and received 372 responses. Thank you to the members of industry who took the time to provide feedback.
We received comments on key elements of the proposal, including:
- the proposed assessment framework for recognising foreign states
- the inclusion of Singapore, the United Kingdom and the United States as recognised States under Part 66
- concerns related to training, aviation safety and employment matters.
