The $301.25 million, joint-funded Bruce Highway Upgrade – Maroochydore Road and Mons Road Interchanges project has reached another key milestone, with the new eastern and western service roads set to open in full.
The service roads were partially opened in December, with work continuing to connect Maroochydore Road and Mons Road interchanges on the eastern and western sides of the Bruce Highway, removing local traffic and improving access to the local business district.
Both directions of the eastern service road are expected to open in in the coming weeks, between Sandalwood Lane and the BP on Mons Road.
The western service road, known locally as Chevallum Road, will follow, with traffic able to travel in both directions between Mons Road and Leafy Lane.
The new, two-way roads will remove local traffic from the Bruce Highway.
The Maroochydore Road and Mons Road Interchange project also includes active transport links for bike riders and pedestrians through the Maroochydore Road interchange onto the eastern service road.
The Australian Government has contributed $241 million to the project, and Queensland Government provided $60.25 million.
