Former officer charged - St Marys

A former police officer has been charged following an investigation into the importation and sale of illegal cigarettes.

In August 2023, officers attached to the Professional Standards Command established Strike Force Wilbar to investigate the importation and sale of illegal cigarettes by a St Mary's business.

As part of inquiries, investigators executed a search warrant at a business in St Marys on Monday 16 October 2023, seizing electronic devices, cash, 258 packets of illegal cigarettes, eight kilograms of loose left tobacco and 212 electronic cigarettes (vapes), suspected of containing nicotine.

Following extensive inquiries, the former officer, a 21-year-old man, was issued a court attendance notice today (Wednesday 20 December 2023), for convey/possess tobacco products reckless/intent to defraud revenue and possess tobacco 5 kilograms or above.

He is due to appear at Mount Druitt Local Court on Wednesday 7 February 2024.

The man's employment has been terminated.
