Former Victoria Police Inspector convicted following IBAC investigation

A former Victoria Police Inspector was today sentenced in the Melbourne Magistrates' Court, following an investigation by Victoria's independent police oversight body, IBAC.

IBAC charged former Victoria Police Inspector David Manly and a Sergeant with a range of offences in November 2018, including perjury, misconduct in public office, obtaining property by deception and theft.

The charges were the result of IBAC's investigation, Operation Salina, into allegations that a police officer fraudulently took possession of a number of vacant properties.

Mr Manly pleaded guilty to perjury and failing to produce a document or other thing, and was convicted and fined $5000.
