Four-day search takes to air to locate missing man at Balranald

Efforts to locate a man missing from a town in the state's Murray region continue as day four of the search comes to an end.

Andrew Bruton, aged 42, was last seen in Balranald about 6.30pm Tuesday (3 September 2019).

Officers attached to Barrier Police District were alerted to Mr Bruton's status and commenced inquiries into the matter.

On Friday (6 September 2019), police located Mr Bruton's vehicle parked adjacent to the banks of the Murrumbidgee River, just outside of the Balranald township.

Police, including specialist land search coordinators and dog handler, with the support of local emergency services personnel and community members, have conducted extensive searches in and around the area the vehicle was located.

NSW Police Force divers attended the scene and commenced a search of sections of the Murrumbidgee River with nothing of significance found.

About 12.30pm today (Monday 9 September 2019), police ceased the land search aspect of the operation and will commence an aerial search tomorrow (Tuesday 10 September 2019) with the assistance of a Drone Operator from Broken Hill.

Investigations external to the site will continue.

Barrier Police District Chief Inspector Tony Moodie thanked volunteers and community members for their ongoing assistance.

"I'd like to thank volunteers of the NSW Volunteer Rescue Association Inc, NSW Rural Fire Service, NSW State Emergency Service and community members for coming in their own time and assisting police in the operation over the last four days," he said.
