Four people charged following affray in Lake Illawarra

Four people have been charged with a range of offences following an altercation that occurred at a home in Warilla yesterday, NSW Police say.

About 3.30pm (Monday 2 April 2018), officers from Lake Illawarra were called to a home on Benaud Crescent following reports of an altercation involving a number of people armed with various weapons including baseball bats and poles.

On arrival police located several people outside the property involved in a brawl. Police separated the parties resulting in the arrest of five people.

Four of those, including three men and a woman, were taken to Lake Illawarra Police Station where the following charges were laid –

  • A 41-year-old man was charged with use offensive weapon with intent to commit indictable offence and affray. He was granted conditional bail to appear in Port Kembla Local Court on 18 April 2018.
  • A 43-year-old man was charged with use offensive instrument with intent to commit indictable offence and affray. He has been refused bail and will appear in Wollongong Local Court today (Tuesday 3 April 2018)
  • A 21-year-old man was charged with destroy or damage property and affray. He was granted conditional bail and will appear in Port Kembla Local Court on 2 May 2018.
  • A 29-year-old woman was charged with destroy or damage property (x2) and affray. She was granted conditional bail and will appear in Port Kembla Local Court on 2 May 2018.

The fifth person arrested, a woman aged 51, was taken to Shellharbour Hospital complaining of an injury to her hand. She was later released from hospital and detectives expect to speak with her today.
