Four rescued after boat capsizes in Windang

Four people have been rescued after a boat capsized on the south coast today, NSW Police say.

About 6.30pm (Friday 12 January 2018) four men aged 31, 48, 52, and 62, left the boat ramp in the Windang area and headed east over the Windang Bar approximately 40 metres off Windang Island to go fishing.

About 1.00am (Saturday 13 January 2018) the boat capsized after it hit a wave while attempting to cross the Windang Bar, throwing the men into the water.

Emergency services were alerted and located four men in the water. They were removed from the water by Ambulance rescue helicopter, Marine Rescue and officers from the Marine Area Command.

Two of the men were taken to Hospital as a precaution. One of the men sustained a minor laceration to his hand.

Officers from Lake Illawarra Local Area Command and Marine Area Command attended and will be investigating the circumstances surrounding the incident.

Police are urging anyone with information in relation to this incident to call Crime Stoppers.
