Fourth man charged as part of investigation into firearms supply, NSW

A fourth man has been charged as part of an investigation into the supply of firearms in the Illawarra, NSW Police say.

Based on information received, detectives from the State Crime Command’s Firearms Squad and Lake Illawarra Local Area Command established Strike Force Yarmuk to investigate the supply of firearms.

Following extensive inquiries, three men were charged by strike force detectives last Thursday (15 September 2016). They are currently before the courts.

As a result of further inquiries, a search warrant was executed with the assistance of the Public Order and Riot Squad at a home unit on Bligh Street, Wollongong, about 8.40am yesterday.

Police located and seized a gaming machine, cannabis, a 'Colt' air pistol, a crossbow, cash and various calibres of ammunition.

A 55-year-old man was arrested at the location and taken to Wollongong Police Station, where he was charged with possess gaming machine that is not approved, cannabis supply, possess prohibited drug, possess unauthorised pistol, possess or use a prohibited weapon without permit, deal with proceeds of crime, goods in personal custody suspected being stolen, and possess ammunition without licence.

He was refused bail to appear at Wollongong Local Court today, where he was granted bail to appear at the same court on Wednesday 9 November 2016.

Investigations under Strike Force Yarmuk are continuing.
