Free Dump Month Returns in March with Yenda Hours

Household clean-ups are set to get a boost this March, with Council bringing back the popular Dump for Free Month, giving residents the chance to dispose of general domestic waste at no cost.

From Sunday 1 March to Tuesday 31 March 2026, residents can drop off waste for free at the Griffith and Yenda waste facilities, making it easier to tidy up homes, sheds and gardens while doing the right thing for the environment.

Council's Waste Operations Manager John Roser said the initiative continues to be popular with the community.

"The response to last Dump for Free Month was incredibly positive, with more than 4,000 residents from Griffith and Yenda taking part," Mr Roser said.

Throughout March the Tharbogang Waste Management Centre will be open daily from 8am to 5pm and the Yenda Facility Sundays, with extended hours from 8am to 5pm.

Mayor Doug Curran said the program played an important role in keeping the city clean and liveable.

"This initiative helps residents take pride in their neighbourhoods by safely disposing of unwanted items," Mayor Curran said.

"Dump for Free Month is one of the practical ways Council supports a clean, healthy and welcoming city for everyone."

Each household is entitled to dispose of up to two standard loads during March, with a maximum of four car tyres per load. A standard load includes a single car, ute, or car and trailer combination. Commercial or agricultural tyres will not be accepted.

Hazardous materials, including asbestos, are not accepted as part of Dump for Free. Residents are encouraged to use the free Community Recycling Centre at the Tharbogang Waste Management Facility, which accepts items such as paint, gas bottles, fire extinguishers, oils, batteries, smoke detectors and fluorescent globes and tubes.
