Lifeguard training is a fun and active way for young people to build confidence and leadership skills.

It opens up great part-time or casual job opportunities, especially during school holidays and summer.

Corangamite Shire Council is offering free training for Shire residents aged 12-24 during the September school holidays.

"The Pool Lifeguard Training Course is at Cobden Health Indoor Pool on Tuesday 23 and Wednesday 24 September," Coordinator Community Development and Engagement Bec Reedman said.

"Being a lifeguard teaches vital first aid and aquatic CPR skills that can save lives.

"It's a fantastic way to stay fit and improve swimming ability in a structured environment.

"Lifeguards play a key role in keeping pools and beaches safe, which is especially important in Australia's water-loving culture.

"Having lifeguard certification looks impressive on a resume and can lead to other roles in aquatic or emergency services.

"Most importantly, it empowers young people to make a real difference in their community. There are only 20 places so get book now at events.humanitix.com/lifeguard-training-2025."

The course will equip candidates with the skills and knowledge required to supervise swimming pool users. It covers pool surveillance, scanning techniques, rescue skills, oxygen resuscitation and emergency care.

Prospective participants must have the First Aid/CPR HLTAID003 or HLTAID011 certificate before they can register for this course.
