FREE tickets now available for International Women's Day

The Greater Shepparton Women's Charter Advisory Committee invites residents to celebrate International Women's Day at a free event on Thursday 12 March 2020 at The McIntosh Centre.

The global theme for International Women's Day in 2020 is #EachforEqual which is a call to action for driving gender balance across the world. All are welcome for an evening of celebration, conversation and performance.

Greater Shepparton's local guest speaker is Leanne Rovers. Leanne is a local farmer from Invergordon who is highly involved in her community. Leanne was instrumental in coordinating many 'hay runs' to support farming communities in response to the devastating droughts throughout New South Wales and Queensland.

Council Mayor, Cr Seema Abdullah, said women don't have to look far in this region for inspiration.

"Greater Shepparton is home to women from many different walks of life. These women are constantly inspiring others to reach great heights and achieve great things," Cr Abdullah said.

"Please take the time to attend this event and support the incredible things women in Greater Shepparton are doing every day."

Greater Shepparton Councillor and Charter Champion, Cr Kim O'Keeffe, said she is looking forward to the upcoming International Women's Day event.

"The theme for International Women's Day in 2020 is #EachforEqual. Society has come a long way with gender equality and gender balance but there is always more that can be done.

"We encourage residents to not only register for a free ticket and attend this wonderful event, but to do some research on what gender equality really means, and what it can look like in Greater Shepparton."
