South Australian Government has launched a free Online Accessibility Policy and Toolkit to support organisations with digital accessibility.
Co-designed with over 100 organisations including Vision Australia, Royal Society for the Blind SA and people with lived experience of disability, the toolkit provides best-practice guidelines and easy-to-use checklists to support all public, private and for-purpose organisations to design with accessibility in mind.
South Australian Minister for Human Services, Michelle Lensink says the free resources were designed to ensure online access and inclusion for all Australians with disability.
"I encourage all organisations…to review their website content and make use of these free resources to help improve access for everyone.
"The co-design of this policy and toolkit is another example of the State Government's commitment to ensure people with disability have the leading role in shaping policies and creating programs which influence their lives."
The toolkit provides targeted guidance for project managers, digital content professionals, developers, designers and user experience teams, including ideas on how to incorporate accessibility into each phase of service design and delivery.
It also offers practical tips for digital content accessibility, including information architecture, plain language, 'scannability', hyperlinks, image alt-text, forms, PDF and Word documents, video and multimedia.
