Mayor of The Hills Shire, Dr Michelle Byrne is encouraging children to bring Mum to Bella Vista Farm on May 2 for an early Mother's Day treat and to explore the Farm's history.

Mum can enjoy a complementary Devonshire Tea while kids are entertained with pony rides, face painting, balloon twisting, a mini farmyard and a yummy gelato!

Entry is free, but bookings are limited and on a first-come, first-served basis.

Mayor Byrne said mums from of all walks of life have been through a lot these last 12 months and deserve to be celebrated.

"The past year has really shone a light on mums and all the wonderful work they do," she said.

"They've juggled working full-time, while educating and keeping their kids engaged at home during lockdown. Some mums worked on the frontlines in healthcare, education or in essential services. Others did all they could to ensure their families, friends, neighbourhoods and communities remained connected during these difficult times.

"This is my special way of thanking them for everything they do and continue to do," Mayor Byrne added.

On the same day, The Friends of Bella Vista Farm are holding a special 'Australian Heritage Festival' Open Day with the theme: 'Bella Vista Farm: Sharing stories of its past and its people'.

Knowledgeable guides will be on hand to share stories of the people who lived there, and visitors can enjoy a range of heritage displays, demonstrations and activities, including games and craft, as well as market stalls.

Entry to the Australian Heritage Festival event is by donation, and all are welcome.

To register for 'Fun at the Farm with Mum' visit Eventbrite and search "The Hills Shire Council". Tickets are now on sale.

Bella Vista Farm was instrumental in the development of the Australian pastoral and agricultural industries in the nineteenth century.

It was one of the first merino sheep farms and had the largest citrus orchard in the Colony.
