Residents in and around Rydalmere and North Parramatta will soon have better spaces to play and connect, with nearly $14 million to be spent on transforming two key community facilities.
The NSW Government this week announced funding for two additional projects put forward by City of Parramatta Council, including $8.3 million for improvements to Doyle Ground and $5.5 million to refurbish Rydalmere Bowling Club. It brings to eight the number of projects funded through the WestInvest Community Project Grants Program.
City of Parramatta Lord Mayor Cr Donna Davis said this funding will help bring to life plans that Council has developed with the local community.
"The City of Parramatta is already a great place to work, live and play - but in order to support the incredible growth our local government area is experiencing, we need to continually invest in quality infrastructure and accessibility to outdoor and recreation space," Cr Davis said.
"The proposed upgrades to Doyle Ground will improve access to open space, transforming the facility into a high-quality district sporting complex that accommodates multi-sport activities and events. Solar lighting around the walking track will be a wonderful addition to this much-loved and highly utilised park.
"Our community will also benefit from upgrades to the former Rydalmere Bowling Club, which will see it turned into a multi-purpose community centre with family-friendly dining options. Council has been consulting with the community about this project for a long time, with a masterplan and concept design already in place."
City of Parramatta is also seeking funding for dozens of projects as part of WestInvest's community competitive round, including an additional $5.4 million for stage 2 works at Doyle Ground, as well as $8.7 million to realise Council's 'Heart of Play' Masterplan - which involves upgrades to a network of five parks in North Parramatta, to create a thriving sports and recreation precinct for the community.
"We cannot overestimate the importance of investing in green, open spaces and community facilities for our booming population, but Council can't do it alone," Cr Davis said.
"We would love to see further investment in the arts, culture and recreation across our LGA. As one of the country's fastest growing regions, Council looks forward to further announcements as part of the WestInvest program."
