Port Stephens Council's 2021–22 Community Funding Program has 11 funding streams available for a range of initiatives, events and activities.

Port Stephens Mayor Ryan Palmer says it's the perfect time to launch the new program.

"While Port Stephens continues to be impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic, I am encouraged by the resilience our community has shown.

"It has been a difficult time and I know there are lots of individuals, groups, not-for-profits and businesses who will be able to benefit from these funds.

"The pandemic has also given rise to a new wave of creativity, big thinking and joy for living that I can't wait to see expressed in these new initiatives when the time is right.

"I'd encourage people to start planning and applying for funding now so that we can inject a much-needed dose of activity and vibrancy to Port Stephens as soon as it's safe to do so."

Mayor Palmer says there's a new funding stream for community groups and the Aboriginal Projects Fund has returned.

"Our newest stream, the Local Strengthening Fund, aims to enhance the wellbeing and development of the Port Stephens community.

"We also have streams to reinvigorate our streets and neighbourhoods, support local businesses, and enhance the social, cultural, environmental and economic life of our communities.

"We've invested significant funds through our funding programs for over a decade now, and it's wonderful to see the results – new public art, community activities and events, protecting our environment and much more.

"Whether you're a creative, community group, not-for-profit, businesses or something else – there's a funding stream for you. I encourage you to read the guidelines and be inspired to start planning a new event, program, experience or community initiative.

"This year, we are using the SmartyGrants platform to make the application process even easier. Please read the guidelines and contact our team to discuss your project and get some helpful tips for a successful application," he said.

Most funding streams are open year-round, while others have 2 rounds to apply. The first round is open from 1 September to 5 October 2021.

A webinar will be made available on Wednesday 13 September 2021 to provide tips and tricks for a successful application.
