Funeral plaques stolen at Seymour

Police are appealing for public assistance following the theft of brass memorial plaques from the grounds of the Seymour Anglican Parish church.

Investigators have been told 25 plaques from the crematorium area of the Anzac Avenue church were stolen overnight.

The plaques were individually marked with details of the deceased, some dating back about 50 years.

Eight other plaques were removed from garden monuments in the past week but only reported to police today.

Police believe the plaques may be melted down and sold as scrap metal.

Investigators ask scrap metal merchants to be vigilant and contact police if they have any suspicions about a scrap metal sale.

Anyone with information is urged to contact Seymour Police on 5735 0200 or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 or submit a confidential crime report at www.crimestoppersvic.com.au
