Gallery to close for major works

Shoalhaven Regional Gallery is getting ready to close for 12 weeks as they undertake major works to improve the air conditioning system, allowing them to borrow works from major collections.

From Monday March 9, Shoalhaven Regional Gallery will close to the public as major works are undertaken. The work will include the installation of a new air conditioning system which will ensure the temperature and humidity levels in the galleries meet the lending requirements from State and National Collections. This will open up new opportunities for the Shoalhaven, and exciting exhibitions are already planned and underway.

The work has been funded by the NSW Government through the Regional Cultural Fund and ClubGrants Category Three, in partnership with Shoalhaven City Council.

Shoalhaven Arts Board Chair, Clr John Wells states 'These works are an exciting move forward for the Gallery and will ensure the Shoalhaven can access important artworks from the Art Gallery of NSW, the National Gallery of Australia and other major collections. We're grateful to the NSW Government for helping us achieve this significant upgrade'.

While the Gallery building is closed, staff from Shoalhaven Regional Gallery will be out and about in the community with education programs, art activities and mini-exhibitions planned.
