Gang Crime Squad Arrest Four After Carlton Stabbings

Detectives from Melbourne Crime Investigation Unit and the Gang Crime Squad have arrested four males following an incident in Carlton on 31 December where two men were stabbed.

These arrests are part of a joint operation between Melbourne Crime Investigation Unit and the Gang Crime Squad, which led to a number of search warrants being executed on Tuesday, 13 January.

A 21-year-old Fitzroy man was arrested and subsequently charged with violent disorder, intentionally cause serious injury and affray.

He was remanded to appear at Melbourne Magistrates' Court on 22 January.

A further three search warrants were executed on Monday (19 January) in Reservoir, Carlton and the Melbourne area with assistance from the VIPER Taskforce and Melbourne Crime Investigation Unit.

A 17-year-old boy from the Melbourne area was charged with violent disorder, intentionally cause serious injury and affray.

He was remanded to appear to at a children's court at a later date.

Two men, a 19-year-old from Carlton and a 21-year-old from Reservoir, were arrested and have since been released pending further enquiries.

The arrests follow an incident where emergency services were called to Lygon Street near the intersection of Argyle Place about 11.45pm on Wednesday, 31 December.

Police will allege a group of males, armed with knives and machetes, set-upon two men outside a restaurant before fleeing in vehicles.

The two victims - a 20-year-old Heidelberg West man and an 18-year-old NSW man - sustained serious injuries and were transported to hospital.

Detectives believe the incident was targeted and parties involved were known to each other.
