Gang Crime Squad To Investigate Altona North Shooting

Detectives from the Gang Crime Squad will investigate a non-fatal shooting which occurred in Altona North overnight.

At this stage, police believe the incident may be connected to the illicit tobacco trade.

Emergency services were called to reports a man had been shot outside a premises on Borrack Square about 11.30pm on Tuesday 17 March.

A large gathering of people was sitting outside a café when a white Toyota Hilux approached and a number of shots were fired into the crowd.

A 49-year-old man suffered two gunshots to the arm. He was transported to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

The offender/s fled in the vehicle, which was later located on fire at the intersection of McArthurs and Chambers roads about 2.50am.

A crime scene has been established and the investigation into the circumstances of the incident is ongoing.

Police believe the incident was targeted and will investigate any potential links to any other incidents.
