Geelong detectives charge man with aggravated burglary

Geelong Crime Investigation Unit detectives have charged a Corio man following an aggravated burglary at a home in Hamlyn Heights on 22 August, Victoria Police say.

The victim was in his lounge room when he heard someone come through the front door of his Chaucer Street home just before 7pm.

The victim initially believed it was his 93-year-old father but was then confronted by a man with a knife who threatened him.

The 67-year-old man was beaten around the head and was left injured with severe bruising and swelling.

His father ran out of the home to get help from a neighbour who raised the alarm.

The offender ran from the scene and jumped the rear fence to get away.

A 19-year-old Corio man was arrested and charged today about 9.40am.

The man was arrested at a home in Hendy St, Corio.

The man was charged with the following offences:

- Aggravated burglary

- Armed robbery

- Intentionally cause injury

- Recklessly cause injury

- Assault with a weapon

He will appear before the Geelong Magistrates Court this afternoon.
