Georges River Council has finalised its budget for the 2025-26 Financial Year at its Council Meeting on Monday 23 June 2025. This was part of the adoption of Council's Working Together for a Better Future - Community Strategic Plan, Delivery Program, Operational Plan and Resourcing Strategy.
The 2025-26 Budget aims for a $2.4 million surplus, to ensure contribution to the delivery of Carss Park Pool. Council also remains debt free, highlighting its commitment to responsible and sustainable spending.
Council received a record 143 submissions from the community in response to the consultation on the draft Budget – more than double than the year prior.
Council is continuing its commitment to building a better city for all, with more than $150 million allocated over the next four years to renew and enhance local infrastructure. In 2025/26, this includes $10 million for road and footpath upgrades and safety improvements; $1.5 million for stormwater and drainage infrastructure; $9.5 million for the renewal and enhancement of parks, playgrounds, and recreational spaces; $13 million for community buildings, childcare centres, and sporting facilities; and $1 million to modernise library collections and technology.
Georges River Council Mayor Elise Borg said, "We are committed to investing in infrastructure that benefits both current and future communities. This helps us focus on what matters most, balancing short term needs with long-term sustainability.
"One of the items I am extremely proud of is a Synthetic Field Rubber Crumb Trial, which will help stop rubber crumb from migrating into the environment. An important initiative, it is also supported by both Football St George and Oatley Flora and Fauna Conservation Society.
"Our 2025–26 Budget reflects our dedication to supporting a thriving, inclusive community, by building the spaces, places and services that help people feel supported and connected."
