Georges River Council Elects Deputy Mayor, Chairs

Georges River Council elected the Deputy Mayor and the Chairs of Council Committees for a new term at its Extraordinary Council Meeting on Monday 22 September 2025.

Councillors gathered to appoint leadership roles across five key areas of Council governance, with the following positions confirmed:

  • Deputy Mayor: Councillor Sam Stratikopoulos.

  • Chair of Assets and Infrastructure Committee: Councillor Natalie Mort.

  • Chair of Environment and Planning Committee: Councillor Peter Mahoney.

  • Chair of Community and Culture Committee: Councillor Kathryn Landsberry.

  • Chair of Finance and Governance Committee: Councillor Christina Jamieson.

The above Committee Chairs have retained their positions, ensuring continuity in leadership.

Council welcomes Councillor Sam Stratikopoulos, who has been newly elected as Deputy Mayor to serve the community. We extend our sincere thanks to Councillor Nancy Liu for her dedicated service during her time as Deputy Mayor. Her contributions have made a lasting impact, and we acknowledge her commitment to developing a more connected and inclusive community.

Councillor Oliver Dimoski has been elected as the new Chair of the Georges River Council Sports Advisory Committee. We extend our gratitude to outgoing Chair, Deputy Mayor Sam Stratikopoulos, for his dedicated service to the Committee.

Councillor Nancy Liu will continue to lead the Local Transport Forum (formerly the Traffic Advisory Committee). Mayor Elise Borg remains the Council's representative to the Southern Sydney Regional Organisation of Councils (SSROC), with Deputy Mayor Sam Stratikopoulos now joining her as the second representative, replacing Councillor Nancy Liu.

Councillor Matthew Allison continues as the representative for the Georges River Combined Councils Committee Advisory Committee (GRCCC), while Councillor Natalie Mort retains her role as Chair of the NSW Public Libraries Association.

Additionally, Deputy Mayor Sam Stratikopoulos and Councillor Christina Jamieson will continue to serve as representatives on the Sydney South Planning Panel.

Georges River Council Mayor Elise Borg congratulated the newly elected leaders and said, "These appointments reflect our commitment to strong, collaborative leadership that delivers for our community.

"I look forward to working closely with the Deputy Mayor and Committee Chairs as we continue to build a vibrant and resilient Georges River."

The elected representatives will now lead their respective portfolios, helping to shape Council's strategic priorities and ensure the delivery of high-quality services and infrastructure for residents.
