Georges River Council is proud to acknowledge Privacy Awareness Week (PAW) 2025, running from Monday 16 June to Sunday 22 June 2025.
This annual initiative is led by the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner (OAIC) and promotes the importance of protecting personal information by encouraging everyone to make privacy their business.
The theme for this year's campaign, 'Privacy, it's everyone's business', highlights that good privacy practices are essential across all areas of work and life. Personal information forms the foundation of our identities, and we all have a role to play in ensuring it is handled with care.
As part of its commitment to privacy, this year Council will focus on the principle of 'Privacy by Design', embedding privacy protections into systems, policies, and processes from the outset.
This year's PAW activities are primarily focused on internal engagement and staff education, designed to strengthen Council's privacy culture and reinforce the message that protecting personal information is a shared responsibility.
Council will be holding a staff event where we will be honoured by special guest NSW Privacy Commissioner, Sonia Minutillo, as well as conducting an internal Privacy Roadshow to reach all staff across Council.
Georges River Council General Manager David Tuxford said, "Privacy is everyone's business.
"At Georges River Council, we are committed to embedding strong privacy practices into everything we do to build trust with our community and safeguard the information we hold.
"Privacy Awareness Week is an opportunity to pause and reflect on how we handle information. It's also a chance to empower our staff to take small, practical steps to protect privacy in their everyday work."
