The City is reminding Gold Coasters why it is important to prepare for storm season and how residents can increase their chance of a quicker recovery.
This year's Get Ready message is "weather doesn't plan, but you can". It encourages residents to know their risks, have a plan, pack an emergency kit and sign up to Gold Coast Alerts.
Following recent severe weather including the 2023 Christmas Day and New Year's Eve storms, and Tropical Cyclone Alfred earlier this year, this message is more important than ever.
"The Gold Coast has copped a hammering in the last two years with recovery efforts still underway in parts of the city," Mayor Tom Tate said.
"These types of weather events remind us about how unpredictable the weather can be.
"While the City will have resources and assistance available when we are recovering from a severe weather event, you will be in a much better position if you've done the preparation work before it gets to that.
"Research has shown us that households that prepare are able to recover much faster than those who don't, so knowing your risks, having a plan and packing your emergency kit is essential."
This year the City is encouraging every Gold Coaster to take that extra step and create a household plan, which they can now do using the Get Ready online tool.
The online tool guides Gold Coasters through easy-to-follow steps to record information about their household, and provides a list of actions for people to protect themselves, their home and assets.
Being prepared is simple with these steps:
- Know your risk

- Pack a kit
