For many of our older residents, getting to the shops, local attractions, social events or day trips isn't always easy.
That's where Bayside's community transport program comes in - offering a friendly, reliable way to stay connected and independent.
Every day, Bayside Care and Supports' community buses help eligible residents get from home to where they need to go, whether it's a prearranged group trip to Southland Shopping Centre, lunch spots around Bayside, day outings or to the Black Rock Activity Centre (BRAC) for social activities and a delicious, cooked meal.
But these aren't just bus rides, according to resident Patti, who says they are exciting adventures that also provide a chance to make new friends.
'We love the bus outings, we think they're fabulous," said resident Patti.
"All the venues are really, really good and the staff are fabulous - they can't do enough for you. We tend to meet the same people on the trips so make extra friends - we all have a lovely time. I can't thank Bayside enough for having the trips."
The door-to-door service is supported by qualified staff and volunteers, ensuring every journey is safe and comfortable. Two community buses have recently been updated, including one with a wheelchair hoist for improved accessibility.
The program is available to older Bayside residents who are registered with My Aged Care and assessed as eligible for transport services.
It's part of Council's commitment to helping people age well in their own homes and neighbourhoods while staying connected to their community.
Trips include larger group outings to places of interest, social catchups and community events, always with a generous dose of good humour and togetherness.
