Girl dies after single vehicle crash - Rankin Springs

A girl has died following a single vehicle crash in the Riverina Region this morning.

About 8.20am today (Saturday 4 September 2021), emergency services attended Mid Western Highway, Rankin Springs, about 65km north of Griffith, following reports a Ford Transit van travelling east had crossed to the other side of the road and crashed into a tree.

The passenger – a 11-year-old girl – was freed from the vehicle by witnesses and administered CPR, however she died at the scene.

The driver of the vehicle – a 51-year-old woman – was uninjured. She was taken to hospital for mandatory testing.

Officers attached to Murrumbidgee Police District established a crime scene, which will be examined by specialist police from the Crash Investigation Unit.

The Mid Western Highway remains closed in both directions about 2km east of Rankin Springs with traffic diversions in place. Check www.livetraffic.com prior to travelling.
