Gloucester focuses on environment

MidCoast Council

Gloucester residents are finalising their draft local community plan and one of the key priority areas is protecting their awe-inspiring and unique environment.

"Gloucester is well known as a community that cares about the environment. They are justifiably proud of the amazing world heritage-listed Barrington Tops and are active in protecting their beautiful patch and reducing their footprint," said MidCoast Council's Director Liveable Communities, Paul De Szell.

The Gloucester Draft Local Community Plan has been developed by the community, and is not Council's plan, instead it's a whole-of-community plan.

"This is why there are actions included in the plan that may be outside Council's area of responsibility. The draft plan identifies other stakeholders that the community and Council can work with to achieve the vision that Gloucester residents developed during earlier consultations."

Gloucester is being asked to review the draft plan, to decide which actions are the most important to focus on first, and to let us know if anything else should be included in the final plan.

The community has identified that the future protection of our environment is a key area, strongly expressing a desire to protect the pristine beauty of the region.

They have also recognised in the plan that protecting the environment extends to also being innovative in sustainability, focusing on climate change, renewable energies and reducing waste.

Water security is also identified in the draft plan as an important focus area for Gloucester's future.

There's a range of other inspiring actions in the plan, which aim to work towards the Gloucester community's vision for its future in the areas of infrastructure, community and economy.

The consultation is open until 4.30pm on Tuesday 14 September.
