Gold Coast Marks 7 Years To Grow For 2032 Games

7 Years to go event with Mayor Tom Tate

Mayor Tom Tate has joined Australian Olympian and Paralympian champions at Greenheart Robina Parklands today to mark seven years until the Brisbane 2032 Olympic and Paralympic Games.

The City is celebrating the important milestone with '7 Years to Grow' – a celebration of growth in nature, community and future champions.

Mayor Tate took part in a tree planting ceremony alongside BMX Freestyle Olympic bronze medallist Natalya Diehm, Para-canoe Paralympic silver medallist Dylan Littlehales and Junior Mayor Aidan Yi.

"7 Years to Grow is all about focusing on our city's growth in terms of our personal development as well as the Gold Coast's environmental sustainability," Mayor Tate said.

"As a co-host of the Games, the Gold Coast is not only nurturing future Olympians and Paralympians but also fostering a legacy of our environment and sporting infrastructure for generations to come.

"This event not only helps create a greener future for the Gold Coast but also celebrates the countdown to the Brisbane 2032 Games."

The trio planted a Wallum Banksia (Banksia aemula), the City's official floral and arboreal emblem, symbolising the City's legacy commitments.

"Planting the Wallum Banksia today symbolises our commitment to the 'Green behind the Gold' that will continue to blossom just like our athletes in the lead-up to the 2032 Games."

Community members who attended the event received a free Wallum Banksia and took part in the City's Active and Healthy and NaturallyGC activities.

As part of the celebrations, the City will also be lighting up Gold Coast landmarks in green and gold tonight to mark the milestone including:

  • SkyPoint, Surfers Paradise
  • Isle of Capri Bridge, Surfers Paradise
  • Surfers Paradise sign and foreshore
  • Broadbeach sign in Victoria Park, Broadbeach
  • Gold Coast Sports and Leisure Centre, Carrara
