Gold Coast RAP concerned by some driver's behavior following traffic operation

Gold Coast Rapid Action Patrols (RAP) officers are concerned by some driver’s behavior following a traffic operation conducted in Pimpama and the northern parts of the Gold Coast on Sunday, Queensland Police say.

Within a short amount of time RAP officers detected and charged eight people with driving under the influence of a drug with a ninth person being detected nearly four times the legal limit.

Police also issued 16 speeding tickets to drivers who were ignoring the speed limit on Yawalpah Road with one driver allegedly detected doing 89 kilometres/hour in a 60 kilometres/hour zone.

During this one shift police charged 12 people with 36 offences relating to drug and traffic matters.

Sergeant Glenn Shore from Gold Coast RAP said it was extremely disappointing to see so many drivers taking such a big risk in an area full of young families and children.

"Police are asking motorists to slow down, drive to the conditions and don’t drive if affected by alcohol or drugs," said Sergeant Shore.

If you know someone dealing drugs or drug driving we encourage you to report it to Crime Stoppers.
