Good police work results in arrest of thief at Lake Macquarie

Officers from Lake Macquarie have called upon 'old fashioned police work' to arrest a would-be thief in Toronto yesterday.

Shortly after 1pm (Monday 17 June 2019), two occupants of a home on Anzac Parade returned to find a man ransacking their residence.

Upon being disturbed the man ran from the location allegedly dropping stolen items as he went.

Police were called and established a perimeter in an attempt to locate the man. A Police Dog tracked the alleged offender into a nearby creek.

Officers commandeered a local boat and managed to locate the offender lying down in the mangroves in an attempt to camouflage himself.

Officers arrested the 22-year-old man and conveyed him to Toronto Police Station where he was charged with break and enter.

He was refused bail and will appear in Toronto Local Court today (Tuesday 18 June 2019).
