Council's Governance Rules are a requirement of the Local Government Act 2020 (section 60) and are in place to ensure that meeting procedures are consistent with good governance principles. It is essential to ensure that the Borough of Queenscliffe Governance Rules reflect community expectations.
Council's Governance Rules address matters such as the conduct of Council meetings; the receipt of petitions and the asking of public questions at Council meetings. The Local Government Act requires every council in Victoria to adopt their own Governance Rules and to consult with their community before changes are made to the Rules.
