Governor Hurley’s current term as Governor of NSW ends in 2019. A decision on the next Governor will be made in the near future.
Governor Hurley graduated from the Royal Military College, Duntroon in December 1975 into the Royal Australian Infantry Corps. He served for 42 years in the Australian Army, concluding his service as the Chief of the Defence Force. In 2010, General Hurley became a Companion of the Order of Australia for eminent service to the Australian Defence Force. He was awarded the Distinguished Service Cross for his service in Somalia during Operation SOLACE.
Governor Hurley has visited all parts of regional NSW – from Albury to Lismore to Broken Hill and many places in between. He has worked tirelessly to provide support to communities battling drought, bushfires and floods. Governor Hurley has also played an important role in helping NSW communities commemorate the Centenary of Anzac.
Premier Gladys Berejiklian has paid tribute to Governor Hurley for his committed service to the people of NSW over the past four years.
"Governor Hurley has dedicated his entire adult life to the service of his country. The people of NSW have been extremely fortunate to have him as our 38th Governor," Ms Berejiklian said.
"In all aspects of his duties, he has been supported by his wife, Linda. Mrs Hurley is also held in high regard for her compassion and commitment to NSW."
