Latrobe City Council invites the community to a Candlelight Vigil at Gippsland Performing Arts Centre (GPAC) on Wednesday 3 May.
The Candlelight Vigil is an opportunity to remember the women and children lost to family violence across our community and Australia.
Latrobe City has the highest rate of family violence call outs in Victoria.
GPAC will be lit up in purple and tea lights will be lit to honour the women and children lost to family violence, including the six Gippsland women since 2016.
The Vigil is led by Safe Steps Victoria and supported by Gippsland Women's Health. Many Gippsland councils will be holding similar events across the area.
Mayor of Latrobe City Council, Councillor Kellie O'Callaghan said the Candlelight Vigil will be a time for reflection, solidarity, and an opportunity to consider how we can make a collective impact.
"We welcome all members of the community to join the Vigil to recognise those we have lost to family violence and consider how we can provide support to those who need us," said the Mayor.
"Family violence has a significant impact on our community. It dislocates the lives of families that are affected and their friends, neighbours, community groups and workplaces."
