During their 26 week course, the recruits received training in legislation, policies and procedures, defensive tactics, driver training, firearms, cultural awareness, search and rescue and addressing domestic violence.

Deputy Commissioner Murray Smalpage APM said it's always exciting to welcome new members to the force.

"Being a police officer is a great privilege and these officers have joined us to today to carry on the efforts to serve and protect our community."

The 28 graduates will take up duties across the Northern Territory with 13 going to Alice Springs, 12 to Katherine and three to Tennant Creek.

The graduation will be live streamed on the NT Police, Fire and Emergency Services Facebook page at 5pm today.
