Graduation of Recruit Constable Squad 140

Northern Territory Police will welcome 29 new constables into the ranks today.

During their seven-month course, the recruits received training in legislation, policies and procedures, defensive tactics, driver training, firearms, cultural awareness, search and rescue and addressing domestic violence.

Squad 140 was largely recruited within the Northern Territory, with nine members of the squad joining from interstate. The ethnically diverse group includes people making career changes, former defence members and former NT Police Auxiliaries who have transitioned to the constable stream.

The graduates will take up duties in Alice Springs, Katherine and Tennant Creek.

Commissioner of Police Jamie Chalker APM said, "I am incredibly proud of each of today's graduates. Policing in the Territory is a varied, challenging and rewarding career, and I thank everyone who has chosen to serve the community. I look forward to following your careers and celebrate your achievements."

The graduation will be live streamed on the NT Police, Fire and Emergency Services Facebook page at 5pm today.

Congratulations to all those graduating today!
