Triathletes of all ages and abilities will be off and racing in this weekend's Fitzroy Frogs Women and Juniors Rocky Triathlon (Tri).
Now in its eighth year, the event will see up to 300 participants from around CQ of all ages and abilities run, swim and cycle as they test their limits and enjoy the thrill of triathlon.
Communities, Culture and Heritage Councillor Drew Wickerson said Council was proud to support the event with $2000 under the Community Assistance Program (CAP).
"Events like this are so important to our community, and I encourage everyone to get behind the Fitzroy Frogs Rocky Tri," Cr Wickerson said.
"Events and clubs like Fitzroy Frogs and the Rocky Tri help kickstart the careers of future Olympians and providing support like this brings Council a lot of pride."
Parks, Sport, and Public Spaces Councillor Cherie Rutherford said events such as the Rocky Tri were positive for the community.
"Fitzroy Frogs do such a great job organising this event, and seeing the community come together to cheer on participants or give triathlon a go is always a great joy," Cr Rutherford said.
Fitzroy Frogs Triathlon Secretary Helen Wiltshire said the Rocky Tri event was designed to encourage triathlon participation among women and juniors of all abilities.
She said the event was popular among juniors and families and offered a safe, inclusive and supportive environment for newcomers and experienced athletes alike.
"Since its launch in 2019, the event has been held annually and grown steadily, with more than 200 participants in 2025, and this year we're expecting around 300," Ms Wiltshire said.
"This grant will go towards offsetting the cost of traffic control. There are some closed roads for the bike course to enhance the safety and confidence of our junior and new triathletes."
The Fitzroy Frogs Women and Juniors Rocky Triathlon will be held on Sunday, March 22 at the 2nd World War Memorial Pool and along Huish Drive.
The Community Assistance Program supports non-profit community-based organisations with funding for grants and sponsorships towards projects and events that enhance the region's well-being.
