Grants awarded to community groups 21 September

Wodonga's House Creek would be an area one that could benefit from a wetlands project by the Wodonga Urban Landcare Network.

Eight community organisations have been awarded Community Impact Grants at the September council meeting.

The Community Impact Grants Program aims to empower community organisations and community groups to grow ideas in an innovative and creative way, as well as looking to improve the city.

Community organisations and community groups auspiced by a community organisation can apply for grants up to $3000.

The successful recipients included Murray River Fine Art for its Murray River Fine Music Weekend, Creators Artspace for a mentoring program, Zonta Club of Albury Wodonga for mental health first aid for rural women, Art Starts Here (Auspiced by Murray Arts) for creative community workshops, Baranduda Primary School for Connecting Kids, Parents and the Community Program, Lake Hume Model Engineers for grounds restoration, Wodonga Urban Landcare Network to help restore wetlands and the Albury Wodonga Local Food Network and Gateway Health for the 'Grow Your Own' Community Food workshops.

A further three community groups have been successful in the Community Impact Infrastructure Program.

The Wodonga Heart Football Club will receive $10,000 towards new soccer goals at Willow Park.

The current goals are old and in a poor state of repair.

The goals stay on the field for community use which includes members of the public, other soccer teams, schools, and community groups.

The 1st Baranduda Scout Group will receive $10,000 towards increasing community access to the Baranduda Scout Hall.

The hall needs an effective heating and cooling system to make the facility user-friendly all year round.

The Wodonga to Cudgewa Rail Trail Advisory Committee will receive $3590 towards the maintenance of the 19km stretch of the Wodonga to Huon Rail Trail Corridor.

Volunteers need updated equipment including a trailer to transport a ride-on mower, brush cutters and a pole saw.
